Stamps are an artistic, financial, and historical asset for those who see value in them.
Stamp collectors are willing to spend large sums of money, energy, and time to ensure that they can own a rare stamp collection.
Based on this, the Melaka State Government collaborated with Pos Malaysia Berhad to establish the Melaka Stamp Museum in 2007, at the museum exhibiting the earliest stamps from within and outside the country.
The Melaka Stamp Museum is located next to the People’s Museum. It is an old building built during the Dutch colonization of Melaka.
In the past, this building used to be the residence of Dutch officials. When the British succeeded in colonizing Melaka, the British also used this building as their residence.
The architecture of this museum is characterized by architecture from Europe but the roof and windows are more to the local architecture. The museum was built by local Malays and Chinese workers.
The museum displays a variety of information related to the history of stamps and the correspondence system of the ancients as well as viewing some collections of old stamps.
